Spiritual gifts are only helpful if they are done in love.

“If we love Christ as we think we do, as we pretend we do, we shall love his church and people.” – Charles Spurgeon.

“What makes the church like heaven? That’s easy, it’s love.” – Jonathan Edwards.

  1. Pursue love because it is most excellent. (13:1-3)
    • It doesn’t matter what you say. (v.1)
    • It doesn’t matter what you know. (v.2)
    • It doesn’t matter what you do. (v.3)

  2. Practice love because it is to be expressed. (13:4-7)
    •  v4: Patient; Kind; Does not envy; Does not boast; Is not arrogant.
    •  v5: Is not rude; Is not self-seeking; Is not easily angered; Is not resentful.
    •  v6: Does not delight in evil; Rejoices with the truth.
    •  v7: Always protects; Always trusts; Always hopes; Always perseveres.

    3.    Persist in love because it will never expire. (13:8-13)
