Detail:

Main Truth:
if we treasure Jesus above all, then we are going to treasure His mission!

Main Idea:
Followers of Jesus should be generous givers.

Principles for generous giving:

1.   Personal difficulties should not prevent us from being generous.
      (2 Cor. 8:1-4).

Examples of their giving:

  • Severe affliction.(8:2)
  • Extreme Poverty.(8:2)
  • They gave beyond their means.(8:3)
  • They gave of their own accord.(8:3)
  • Begged earnestly for the favor in taking part of the relief of the saints. (8:4)
  • They gave themselves first to the Lord. (8:5)

2.  We demonstrate our love for Jesus through our generosity. (2 Cor. 8:8-9, 24)

2 Corinthians 8:8, “I say this not as a command, but to prove by the earnestness of others that your love also is genuine.

2 Corinthians 8:9,“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, so that you by His poverty might become rich.

3.  A willingness to give is more important than the amount we give. (2 Cor. 8:12).

2 Corinthians8:12, “For if the readiness is there, it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have.”

 4.  We need to have a planto give generously to God’s church.
      (2 Cor. 8:16-24, 9:7).

A. Financial Plan: Give… Save…Live on the rest.

B. Give regularly.

2 Corinthians 9:7, “Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

C. Give consistently

D. Give expectantly.

2 Corinthians 9:10-11,“He who suppliesseed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.11 You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.”

 5. God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Cor. 9:6-7)
